Draft Sustainable Transport SPD Update Consultation

ERYC are running a public consultation on an update to the Sustainable Transport Supplementary Planning Document (SPD).  The consultation starts on 8th January 2024 and they would like to invite you to review the draft documents and submit any comments you may have by 19th February 2024.

SPDs build upon and provide more detailed advice and guidance on the application of policies in the Local Plan, which are used to determine planning applications. They are a material consideration when determining planning applications.

The Sustainable Transport Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) was first adopted in May 2016. This has been a working document for both highway officers and other internal and external users for over seven years and requires a refresh and update. The SPD provides highway advice to planning officers, applicants, their agents and developers alike by providing recommendations from a highway and travel planning aspect. The reason for the update is that some local and national policies have changed or been withdrawn and additional national guidance is available.

The consultation is asking for public and agents’ feedback on the draft update which the Council hopes to adopt as an updated SPD. Once adopted the updated SPD will be considered for planning decisions. This will give applicants more certainty on the details required for applications to be successful, and communities more confidence in travel planning expectations and how sustainable travel should be built into the design of new development.
